Welcome to Black Harbor Support.
Black Harbor is a merchant workspace designed to help organize product sourcing, store analysis, product preparation, content creation, and publishing workflows in one place.
Below you'll find answers to common questions about using Black Harbor.
Getting Started
What is Black Harbor?
Black Harbor is a Shopify app that helps merchants manage the work involved in bringing products into their store and preparing them for sale.
Black Harbor provides a structured workspace where merchants can review store opportunities, evaluate products, prepare product information, optimize content, review images and merchandising details, and approve work before publishing.
How do I get started?
After installing Black Harbor, open the app from your Shopify admin.
You'll arrive at Harbor Square, your central dashboard. From there, you can review your store's current status, view opportunities identified by Black Harbor, access active assignments, or start new work.
What is Harbor Square?
Harbor Square is Black Harbor's main dashboard.
It gives you a high-level view of your store, including store health, current findings, assignments requiring attention, work in progress, and recommended next actions.
Product Sourcing & Assignments
Can Black Harbor help me find products to sell?
Yes. Black Harbor's product sourcing workflow helps merchants research and evaluate potential products before adding them to their store.
You can begin with a product or product source and use Black Harbor's workflow to prepare it for your Shopify catalog.
What kinds of products can I use with Black Harbor?
Black Harbor is designed to support a broad range of Shopify-compatible products rather than being limited to a particular product category.
Merchants remain responsible for ensuring that products they choose to sell comply with Shopify's policies, applicable laws, intellectual property requirements, and any supplier restrictions.
Does Black Harbor supply or manufacture products?
No. Black Harbor is software for managing product and merchandising workflows. Black Harbor does not manufacture, warehouse, or ship merchandise.
Product availability, fulfillment, shipping, returns, and supplier relationships remain the responsibility of the merchant and their chosen suppliers.
What is an assignment?
An assignment is a structured piece of work inside Black Harbor.
Assignments allow the app's specialized departments to work on different parts of a product or store opportunity while keeping the results organized in one workflow.
Black Harbor Departments
What are Black Harbor's departments?
Black Harbor uses specialized departments to organize different areas of merchant work.
Depending on the assignment and available features, departments can assist with areas such as product research, merchandising, product content, store analysis, SEO preparation, images, and other store operations.
Do departments make changes to my store automatically?
Black Harbor is designed to keep the merchant involved in important decisions.
When a workflow requires merchant approval, you'll be able to review the completed work and findings before approving the applicable action.
Store Intelligence
What is Store Intelligence?
Store Intelligence analyzes your Shopify catalog and identifies opportunities that may deserve attention.
Depending on the available store information, this can include issues or opportunities involving product titles, descriptions, SEO information, images, pricing information, publication status, and other catalog details.
What does my Store Health score mean?
Store Health provides a high-level summary of the catalog information Black Harbor has analyzed.
It is intended to help prioritize store improvements and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of sales, search rankings, traffic, or business performance.
Will Black Harbor scan my entire store?
The amount of catalog information analyzed may depend on your Black Harbor plan, current feature availability, and applicable processing limits.
The app will indicate the products or information included in a particular analysis where applicable.
Product Content & SEO
Can Black Harbor improve product titles and descriptions?
Yes. Black Harbor can help prepare and optimize product titles, descriptions, and related product content.
You can review proposed content before using it in your store.
Does Black Harbor guarantee better search rankings?
No.
Black Harbor can help merchants identify and improve common SEO-related elements, but search rankings and traffic are controlled by search engines and depend on many factors outside Black Harbor's control.
Can Black Harbor create content for my store?
Black Harbor includes workflows for preparing merchant content associated with products and merchandising.
Available content capabilities may depend on your plan and the features currently included in Black Harbor.
Images
Can Black Harbor work with product images?
Yes. Product workflows may include reviewing and preparing image-related information associated with a product.
Black Harbor can also identify certain image-related catalog opportunities, such as missing image information, when that information is available through your Shopify store.
Am I responsible for the images I use?
Yes.
Merchants are responsible for ensuring they have permission or appropriate rights to use product photographs, supplier images, logos, trademarks, and other content they publish.
Publishing
Can Black Harbor publish products to my Shopify store?
Black Harbor includes product publishing functionality for supported workflows.
Before publishing, review the prepared product information carefully to ensure the product, content, images, pricing information, and other details are appropriate for your business.
Can I review work before publishing?
Yes. Merchant review and approval are an important part of the Black Harbor workflow.
The Results & Approval Center allows you to review completed work and available findings before approving applicable publishing actions.
Who is responsible for the final product listing?
The merchant is ultimately responsible for products and content published to their Shopify store.
Black Harbor assists with preparation and workflow management, but merchants should review information for accuracy, compliance, intellectual property rights, supplier requirements, and suitability before publication.
Plans & Billing
Does Black Harbor have different plans?
Black Harbor may offer multiple plans with different features, usage allowances, or capabilities.
Current plan information is available from Plans & Upgrades inside the Black Harbor app.
How do I change my plan?
