Sometimes strength doesn't look like moving forward.
Sometimes it looks like refusing to disappear.
There are days when getting through the next hour feels harder than anything you've ever done. Days when you're tired of fighting, tired of explaining, tired of hearing that things will eventually get better when right now still hurts.
On those days, you don't need to conquer the world.
You don't need to have a plan.
You don't need to know what comes next.
You only need to do four things:
Hold On. Endure. Remain. Exist.
That's the meaning behind H.E.R.E.™
Sometimes the Goal Is Simply to Stay
We're constantly told to move forward.
Make progress.
Push through.
Get better.
But what happens when you don't have the strength to move?
Stay where you are.
There is strength in remaining.
When your mind tells you there is no way through this moment, staying gives the moment time to change.
When you cannot see tomorrow clearly, you don't have to solve tomorrow.
You only have to remain long enough to reach it.
H.E.R.E.™ was created around one simple idea:
You are still here. Let that matter.
H — Hold On.
Holding on doesn't mean pretending everything is okay.
It means giving yourself more time.
Another minute.
Another conversation.
Another night.
Another sunrise.
When you're overwhelmed, your mind can make everything feel immediate. It can convince you that something has to change right now.
But you don't have to make permanent decisions during temporary moments of unbearable pain.
Make the world smaller.
Don't solve your entire life.
Get through the next ten minutes.
Then the ten after that.
Hold on to whatever keeps you connected to this moment.
E — Endure.
Enduring isn't glamorous.
Nobody sees every private battle you've survived.
They don't see the nights when sleep wouldn't come.
The tears you wiped away before walking into work.
The messages you typed and deleted.
The times you said “I'm fine” because explaining everything felt impossible.
But you're still here.
That matters.
Endurance doesn't mean pain doesn't affect you.
It means pain hasn't gotten the final word.
R — Remain.
There is something powerful about the word remain.
It doesn't demand that you run.
It doesn't ask you to become stronger overnight.
It doesn't require you to know where you're going.
It simply asks you:
Stay.
Remain for the person who would sit beside you if they knew how much you were hurting.
Remain for the animal waiting for you to come home.
Remain for the possibility that something you cannot see today may matter deeply to you tomorrow.
Remain long enough to discover what comes next.
E — Exist.
And if everything else feels impossible?
Exist.
That's enough.
You don't have to accomplish something today to deserve tomorrow.
You don't have to be productive.
You don't have to smile.
You don't have to inspire anybody.
You don't have to turn your pain into some beautiful lesson.
Eat.
Drink water.
Sleep.
Cry.
Sit quietly.
Ask for help.
Do whatever safely gets you through today.
Existing counts.
The Meaning Behind the H.E.R.E.™ Bulldog
We wanted every character in the Heaven's Keepsakes Co. Suicide Awareness Collection to embody the meaning of the acronym it represents.
For H.E.R.E.™, that character had to feel immovable.
That's why we chose the bulldog.
Our H.E.R.E.™ bulldog isn't running toward something.
He isn't celebrating a victory.
He's planted.
Heavy boots on the ground.
Standing his ground.
His battle-worn clothing represents a life that hasn't always been easy, while the words “STAY PUT” reinforce the message at the heart of H.E.R.E.™:
Don't leave yet.
The design also incorporates 988, because remaining doesn't mean struggling alone.
And on the back, the entire message is revealed:
HOLD ON.
ENDURE.
REMAIN.
EXIST.
Alongside another reminder:
YOU'RE HERE FOR A REASON.
The bulldog doesn't need to know what happens next.
He just refuses to leave before he gets there.
You Don't Have to Earn Your Place Here
One of the most dangerous lies pain can tell someone is that other people would be better without them.
That they're a burden.
That they've messed up too badly.
That they've disappointed too many people.
That they're too broken.
But a human life isn't something that has to be earned through perfect decisions.
You are allowed to struggle and still belong here.
You are allowed to need help and still belong here.
You are allowed to have made mistakes and still belong here.
You are allowed to be unfinished.
You are allowed to remain.
“Still Here” Can Be a Victory
We celebrate birthdays, graduations, promotions, weddings and accomplishments.
Maybe we should celebrate another milestone more often:
Still here.
For some people, those two words represent an extraordinary amount of courage.
Still here after the breakup.
Still here after losing someone.
Still here after the diagnosis.
Still here after the worst year of your life.
Still here after the night you weren't sure you'd survive.
Still here when nobody knew you were struggling.
There doesn't need to be an “and now everything is perfect” attached to it.
You're still here.
That is worthy of recognition all by itself.
Check on the People Who Always Say They're Fine
Suicide awareness isn't only about knowing what to do during an obvious crisis.
It's also about creating relationships where people feel safe enough to admit they're struggling before they reach one.
Check on the strong friend.
Check on the person who makes everyone laugh.
Check on the person who hasn't seemed like themselves lately.
Check on the person who suddenly became unusually quiet.
And don't be afraid to ask directly how they're doing.
You don't need the perfect speech.
Sometimes:
“I'm here. Talk to me.”
is enough to open a door.
And if they do open that door, listen.
You don't have to immediately fix everything.
Being present can matter more than having the perfect answer.
Staying Doesn't Mean Staying Alone
H.E.R.E.™ isn't a message telling someone to grit their teeth and suffer silently.
Holding on can include reaching out.
Enduring can include therapy.
Remaining can include calling a crisis counselor.
Existing can include letting somebody else sit beside you until the moment becomes manageable.
Asking for help isn't failing the message.
Sometimes asking for help is exactly how you remain.
H.E.R.E.™
Maybe today isn't the day you figure everything out.
That's okay.
Maybe today is simply the day you stay.
Plant your feet.
Let somebody stand beside you.
Give tomorrow the opportunity to become something different from today.
And when your mind starts demanding answers you don't have yet, come back to four words:
Hold On.
Endure.
Remain.
Exist.
H.E.R.E.™
You don't have to know what happens next.
You just have to be here to find out.
